Helmerich & Payne: FlexRig Projects
New generation land drilling rigs and rig designs have proliferated in North America as the shale revolution has unfolded. Helmerich & Payne is widely credited with the foresight to start building new gen rigs before the rest of the industry. HP introduced the industry's first AC drive FlexRig in 2002. Subsequently, multiple generations of FlexRigs have been developed, each with its own specialty or technological advance. HP's FlexRig fleet now numbers 314 rigs. RUS Industrial has been with Helmerich & Payne for 23 years and continues to work shoulder-shoulder with Helmerich & Payne in new-build rig construction providing electrical, instrumentation and fabrication services for its Flex Rig projects.
Precision Drilling: Super Series Rigs
Since building one of the world’s first slant single rigs, Precision Drilling has developed a reputation for setting new industry standards for land drilling rigs. This includes the Super Series Rigs, for which RUS Industrial provides electrical and instrumentation services as well as fabrication of masts and substructures. Working closely with Precision Drilling, RUS Industrial was instrumental in the construction of the Super Series Single, Super Triple 1200 and Super Triple 1500 drilling rigs.
Linear Measuring System for Drilling Rig Mast Movement
One of the major concerns in moving a drilling rig is the raising and lowering of the drilling rig mast safely. In an effort to mitigate this risk, RUS Industrial’s Research & Development team, led by Larry Lovell, designed and developed the Linear Measuring Device System “LMDS”. With this relatively simple yet ingenuous design, drilling rig operators are able to monitor the movement of the mast’s hydraulic cylinders, thereby limiting the risk of misalignment and mast twisting. The LMDS sounds an audible alarm upon misalignment and alerts the operator that correction is needed. The LMDS is also used on the substructure’s hydraulic cylinders to monitor and alert operator of the same conditions. An optional data logger will send this data to an SD card at 1 second intervals for review and archive. Our customer was so pleased with the results that it ordered the RUS Linear Measuring Device System be installed on its entire domestic and international rig fleet.
KW Express / Greensport CBR, LLC. Greensport: Unloading Pump Upgrades
On this project, RUS Industrial provided and installed cable trays along with related fittings, supports, clamps, splice plates, divider strips and bonding jumpers. RUS also provided and installed cable tray supports, cables, grounding, conduit, and light fixtures. All work was terminated, tested and completed on time and on budget.
Kinder Morgan: George E. Warren Part 2 - Electrical, Instrumentation and Fabrication
On the GEW project RUS Industrial was contracted to provide all electrical repair and construction including fabrication and installation of MCC Building and installation of a 750KVA Transformer, 12,470V power distribution lines, fiber optic cable, tray cable and cable trays. In addition, RUS provided and installed tank area lighting and cathodic protection cable. This work also included termination for pump motors and installation of the local control station panels and grounding. RUS provided, installed, terminated, and calibrated all flow switches, level switches, pressure transmitters and gauges. All work was completed ahead of time and on budget.
Kinder Morgan: Pit 4 Surge Relief - Electrical and Instrumentation
On this project, RUS Industrial provided and installed JB enclosures, installed analog input models and provided and installed terminal blocks. In addition, RUS provided and installed required conduits, cables, bracket supports, duct banks and fittings. Finally, RUS provided and installed power and instrument cabling from a new MCC Building to existing duct banks and installed related instrumentation, flow switches, cable, junction boxes.
Convergint Technologies: Colonial Pipeline Project
RUS Industrial, in association with a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, was contracted to provide and install a state-of-the-art security system for two strategic pumping station facilities in Pasadena and Port Arthur, Texas. This work included providing and installing all cabling, instruments, control panels, bollards, card readers, and cameras, plus power and testing for the entire system.
CB&I: Golden Pass LNG Project
Golden Pass LNG is a joint venture of Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips. Together, they combined to develop a world-class LNG terminal in Sabine Pass, Texas. The terminal is among the largest LNG facilities in the world and can accommodate up to 15.6 million metric tons of LNG per year, the equivalent of approximately 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. CB&I was awarded a contract by Golden Pass LNG Terminal, LLC for the engineering, procurement, fabrication and construction of the facility. RUS Industrial was hired by CB&I to provide electrical and instrumentation construction and QA/QC services for the facility.
Abengoa Solar / AKO Engineering USA: The Solana Generating Station
Solana is a solar power plant near Gila Bend, Arizona, southwest of Phoenix. When commissioned, it was the largest parabolic trough plant in the world and the first U.S. solar plant with molten salt thermal energy storage. A Concentrated Solar Power Plant (CSP) designed to obtain electrical energy from solar radiation, which falls on mirrors and concentrates the sunlight on absorber tubes. Inside these absorber tubes heat transfer fluid flows reaching a temperature close to 400ºC. This heat transfer fluid is transported to heat exchangers, where its water is evaporated by heat transfer. The generated steam will be taken to the turbine where electricity is generated. RUS Industrial’s team of electricians installed an electrical heat trace wiring and monitoring system on the entire facility to prevent production stoppages due to the solidification of heat transfer fluids or freezing of service waters.
